Family : Palmae
Description : It is a huge palm tree, with heights reaching 30 m, a straight grey and smooth trunk,
which is bulged at the crown.
Fruits : Its fruits are orange, shining, globular drupes containing two or tree large ovoid seeds. The
flesh is orange, richly aromatized, fiberized and edible.
Uses : The fruit can be eaten raw, or roasted, and the juice is rich in sugar. Borassus aethiopum like
other palms has a great potential for ornamental purposes.
Germination : it occurs within two months (even less), but the plant has a very slow upward growth.
